Who We Are

Cataract Surgeons for Improved Eyecare (CSIE) is a national membership association of ophthalmologists and cataract surgeons who are committed first and foremost to the highest quality of care for our patients. Our members provide comprehensive eye care, including medical and surgical care, for patients of all ages. CSIE is especially focused on cataract surgery, which disproportionately affects older Americans. Our members are leaders of the foremost ophthalmology societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

CSIE Vision and Mission

Our vision is to help patients who need cataract surgery by bringing them access to innovative, cost effective, and practical ophthalmology solutions. Our mission is to educate and inform the American public about important innovations in the field of ophthalmology that can improve patient care, lower healthcare costs for patients, and help our entire healthcare system to become more effective.

The doctors of CSIE are dedicated to improving the quality of life for every person we treat. We recognize that our vocation of helping each individual to see his or her best is dependent on the support of the broader community, on a well-functioning health care system, and on wise public policies that facilitate the availability of the very best technologies, surgical techniques, and therapies.
We are committed to serving our patients’ individual needs with skill and compassion, and to advancing the overall improvement of cataract surgery for the patient’s benefit.

Educational Outreach

CSIE was founded to provide public education about improvements in cataract surgery, and to promote broader patient access to the highest quality of health care through medical innovations that are more affordable and yield better results. We work to inspire public support for vision science, the ophthalmic profession, and improvements in cataract surgery in particular.

To achieve these goals, CSIE provides a wide variety of informational content to our physician members and to the public and the patients they serve.
